SURPLUS FOOD STALL VOLUNTEER

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Bubble & Squeak are looking for an enthusiastic volunteer to help run our surplus food stall with a group of entrepreneurial children aged between 5 - 12 years on a Monday afternoon at Old Oak Primary School, assisting the surplus food coordinator. We are looking for a friendly, personable volunteer with a passion for saving surplus food as well as working with children.  

The run-up of the afternoon will include assisting the children with sorting out the surplus food produce, helping them set up the stall / displaying the stock, greeting parents and taking registers.
Benefits include bringing your ideas to implement an exciting food project and experience in grass root community work.  It would be great for an individual who has an interest in getting stuck in running a startup community project, gaining hands-on experience of running the logistic side of surplus food and working with children.  There is scope for you to bring your ideas to the role depending on your interests.  

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

- Punctual and can make a regular weekly commitment to the Monday afternoon (term time) 
- Friendly demeanour and comfortable with working with a broad range of people from different backgrounds
- Enthusiasm and a willingness to learn and gain experience working with children
- Have an interest in food, sustainability and enterprise
- Flexible to grow and adapt to the role as the project grows

SURPLUS BREAD COLLECTOR AT NOTTING HILL BAKERY

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Bubble & Squeak are looking for a volunteer with a car to collect surplus bread from a bakery in Portobello Road (W11) and dropping off to Old Oak Primary School in East Acton (W12 0AS) on a Monday morning.  The bread shall be collected by 9 AM and dropped off at the school in time for our surplus food stall in the afternoon.  

We can reimburse volunteer drivers petrol costs at the standard mileage rate.  Please note the majority of insurance policies cover volunteer driving within regular motor insurance policies, meaning no additional cost to you.  When using your vehicle for volunteer driving, you will need to contact your insurer in advance to find out if you are covered by your policy.  More details can be found here and here, which we will cover with you upon application and is a straightforward process.    

Benefits include being part of saving on a regular basis a considerable amount of nutritious surplus bread from going to landfill and feeding bellies instead!  

Please note coming soon we may have an opportunity to collect bread to drop off on a Saturday / Sunday for a regular community surplus food event.

AFTER SCHOOL CLUB SURPLUS COOKING WITH KIDS VOLUNTEER

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

After School Club runs at Old Oak Centre Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for children aged 5 - 12 years living in the local area.  The club on a Wednesday hosts a cooking session where children get creative in the kitchen, learning important life skills including cooking and eating delicious food! 

Bubble & Squeak supply the club with surplus food to use for this session with a healthy eating focus.  This is an amazing opportunity for anyone interested in working with children and nutrition looking to develop their skills in lesson planning, creative cooking and sustainability.      

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?


- A foodie with a passion for sharing cooking skills and knowledge to others   
- Keen to get experience in leading and developing a programme       
- Up for cooking creatively with a different selection of foods each week 

- Punctual and can make a regular weekly commitment to Wednesday afternoon with some pre planning time the days before to decide on recipes.    
- Friendly demeanor and comfortable with working with a broad range of people from different backgrounds
- Enthusiasm and a willingness to learn and gain experience working with children
- Have an interest in food, sustainability and enterprise
- Flexible to grow and adapt to a role as the project grows

EVENT SUPPORT VOLUNTEER (ADHOC)

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Bubble & Squeak run throughout the year intergenerational events bringing together the younger and older people in our community.  The event's goal is to use the power of surplus food to bring these groups together, skill share and have fun.  The children help out with setting up and are part of hosting the event for the older people. Previously we have run surplus food dinners, tea parties and intergenerational Bingo to name a few.  

We are looking for ad-hoc support for these events which take place every three months to help set up, run and clear down on the day.  Its a really fun day with a lot of excitement and teamwork in action! 

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

- Up for getting stuck in with all aspect of running an event.  Such as set up, clear down, pouring tea, chatting with older people.                                                                             
- Friendly demeanour and comfortable with working with a broad range of people from different backgrounds
- Enthusiasm and a willingness to learn and gain experience working with children
- Have an interest in food, sustainability and enterprise
- Flexible to grow and adapt to the role as the project grows
